Paul Burwell Documentary update

12/09/2019
After nearly 30 interviews with a fascinating group of musicians and artists who worked with Paul Burwell throughout his life, Nova Studios are now beginning the edit.

" The fun part is getting nearly 40 hours of interview down to around 60 minutes of cohesive story. After all of the interviews have been fully transcribed we cut the audio and create a biographical and thematic paper index into which we enter all of the relevant timecodes. And then we start the assembly, trialling different parts against each other, following our noses from one subject to the next along a loose chronological timeline.

It's a great story to be telling - through the 1970s, 80s, 90s and into the 2000s Paul Burwell was a leading avant garde artist who pushed his rarely-documented practice to the edges. Alongside his close colleagues and friends, Burwell’s work has truly shaped late 20th and early 21st century art and performance. A life of testing boundaries and constantly pushing to extremes; a story of adventure, magick and explosions that eventually led the charismatic Burwell to his own Kurtz-like Heart of Darkness in Hull."
